You can’t have a pipe band without thinking about Highland dancers. Traditionally, these dances were used by Scottish warriors to test their agility, strength, and stamina before battle. While the North Shore Highlanders in Port Dover, Ontario are primarily a band, we have huge respect for the athletes who dance to our tunes.
Dances like the “Sword Dance” were originally performed over crossed blades as a good omen before a fight. If the dancer touched a sword, it was considered bad luck. Today, it’s just a sign of incredible skill! We love providing the live soundtrack for dancers in Norfolk County, as it brings the whole Scottish experience to life.
If you think piping is hard, try doing it while hopping over a broadsword! We’ll stick to the blowing and squeezing, but we’re always happy to share the stage with Port Dover’s talented dancers.
